Why the creation of campus crime stoppers?
Due to dramatic increases of criminal activity throughout the nation’s public school campuses, the formation of Campus Crime Stoppers was seen. This program provides school administrators with an added tool that can be used to combat crime in their schools and to make their campuses a safer learning environment.
The goal of Campus Crime Stoppers is 100% safe schools. This involves more than just tips. Students today are faced with a lot of dangers such as dating violence, internet predators, bullying, drugs, weapons, underage drinking and more. We strive to give students access to people and services that can make them safe from all kinds of threats.
Students who serve on the Campus Crime Stoppers Board of Directors learn valuable leadership skills as they administer their program.

The Local Picture
There are more than three hundred Campus Crime Stoppers programs throughout the State of Texas. In the fall of 1994, Wichita Falls Campus Crime Stoppers started locally. Since that time, the program has grown to thirteen programs in Wichita, Archer and Clay Counties of North Texas.
These school programs operate as umbrella programs under Wichita Falls Crime Stoppers, Inc. The School Campus has been furnished with a rewards account that is funded by Wichita Falls Crime Stoppers, Inc., and through campus fundraisings. Each school has its own board of directors and a sponsor. There are approximately eight to fifteen members on each board of directors. Students can call 940-322-9888 or leave a secure tip on the Crime Stoppers web site to report criminal activity. Student can also download the app on their smartphones, use P3TIPS and text a tip to crimes (274637) wfcrime with message & send.
Once a month the board of directors meets to set policy for the program, discuss fundraising, publicity, and vote on rewards. The board members do not investigate any crimes. The sponsor takes the tips and is responsible for passing the information to either the school administration or the police department, however, that school’s policy dictates. The sponsor oversees the board meetings but has no voting power. The sponsor presents possible reward information to the board for their consideration.
